I only spent half a day on mainland Cuba, with a second bird watching guide called Paulino Lopez Delgado, I was put in touch with him through the Thomas Cook rep, we spent the morning on Cayo Guillermo, Cayo Coco and visited Cayo Paredon Grande. In the afternoon we traveled to Loma de Cunagua, which is a large protected forested mountain/hill near Moron on the mainland. I hoped to see Cuba's national bird the Cuban Trogon, and did with ease, we also picked up plenty of other species along the way, Paulino was very knowledgeable and could have taken me to many other sites had we had the time. He also made use of recordings to attract the various target species. |
