The iPhone: A perfect accompaniment to the wildlife photographer

iPhone camera's are not only for taking candid pictures of your friends and family when they're least expecting it, and then putting the good ones through some pop art retro filter and making yourself feel like a modern day Warhol. Of course thats a whole lot of fun and certainly feeds those creative juices but many of us use our iPhones when out and about exploring the parks and the great open spaces that mother nature has so generously provided us with. We want amazing pictures of plants and animals. We want the colours and contours of the great outdoors, and weather permitting (or not permitting), we're going to go out and get them. Here are some app ideas to help you on your way.

Night Camera offers the chance to take an improved picture when light is fading, or indeed has faded, as using a flash is sometimes just not practical, or wanted. Plus, getting the object to stand still in front of the headlights, or getting the 2 anywhere near each other to begin with, is quite frankly wholly impractical. A new dimension of photography to your gallery can be found whilst having a bit of fun out and about experiment in the garden, in a forest or down by the local lakes at dusk. Be careful though, as you need to have very steady hands.

Perfect Photo is for those of us who have itchy minds once our pictures are taken and we just want to get on with the editing right there and then on the spot. Ok, so the mac's at home and we could wait for a while and get on with it after dinner, but why put off until later what we can feasibly do right now. We want to gently adjust the light and the colour. We want to crop and edit. We want to do it now too.

Camer Zoom v1.1 offers a x4 digital zoom. Digital zooms aren't always that practical to use as asthetically can be a let down but they are defintely a must for any would be iphone photographer. Getting the best results at the x4 end as the blocks and grain move in like fog across the water is tricky but slight zooming here and there never harmed anyone especially in our pursuit of getting up close without actually scaring away our potentially shy and jumpy subject matter!

There's more of course. There's thousands of apps out there waiting to become regulars on your iphone and it's just a case of giving them a go and seeing what they can do for you. So don't be shy. Watch the birdie... Say cheese...!

Vodafone currently offer the iPhone on pay monthly contracts starting from £35.
